The Elite by Kiera Cass

The Elite by Kiera Cass is the second book is the selection series. It is about a 17 year old girl, who is named America. America gets put into this competition which is called the selection. The selection consists of 25 girls, who are all fighting for the same thing. Maxon, the prince.

Now this book really starts right were the selection ends. I felt that this was way better than if the book started out like a couple weeks or months later. I would like to say that in all, this was an amazing book, that is now one of my favorites ever. This book really deserves 5 stars.

Although this book is absolutely breathtaking, I did have a few problems with it. First of all, I feel that America is a very aggravating character. She has such a hard time making decisions, and when she does make decisions, she will go back on any one of them at any given time. Also I feel that America is quite the "Debby Downer". She has a very negative outlook on things, that, instead of making the reader sympathetic for her, it makes the reader feel annoyed with her.

Also, I feel quite strongly that a book should have a lot of description in it, and disappointingly enough, this book lacked it. Even when it did have some description, it was very confusing. I had to go back several times, to reread the paragraph because it was hard to understand.

The biggest issue I had with this book was the love triangle. Now, I know that his was a big part of the book, it is really a big part of most young adult novels, but I felt that that was too big a part. America would make many of her decisions because of a boy, and I felt that the whole story was just completely driven by the love triangle. It is absolutely fine to have some, or even most of the story driven by the triangle, but not all of it. But this didn't completely aggravate me, so I still gave it a 5 out of 5 stars, and I will explain why now.

First and foremost, even though America aggravates me, I still love her. She is quite easily loved. America is a sweet, caring, and all around beautiful character. Every page I turn, I find myself loving her even more.

But that love doesn't compare to the love I feel for Maxon!!! Maxon Is such a cute, romantic man. I wish I was in the selection because I need me some Maxon!!!! I truly also love the fact that this nook gives him more depth, so I can love him even more!!! Ahh I adore him!!

Continuing on with the characters, I am really fond of America's family, especially her father. He reminds me of my own father, and I feel that that is something truly special.
And now to talk about my favorite character. Celeste!!! She is evil! She is just that character that everyone loves to hate. I know that that is the typical "popular" girl scenario, but all of her actions are so well written. I love to hate her!

Now, this book, was an emotional roller coaster. It made me cry at least 7 times. It was also very humorous though, at times. This book was a great book. An the ending, like cliffhanger much!!??
I want to end this review by saying you all need to check this book out. It was beautiful, funny, romantic, action packed, and all around awesome. It had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

  1. Hi DramaticBookNerd. Have you read "The Selection" too? This was a great review and I haven't gotten my hands on "The Elite" yet - I need to get to a bookstore ASAP - it really seems interchangeable with a review of "The Selection" (or at least a non-spoilers review). I only found your youtube reviews (and consequent blog) today but from what I've seen you've done an awesome job as a reviewer. May I suggest "The Luxe" next? It's set in 1899.
Have fun reading and have a great day!
